I just spent a large chunk of my refund check on a new altinator, so why not sink even more into it while I'm at it?
I love my car to death, but it's starting to fall apart on me.

Now,
there's another issue that's going to be on my mind for a while. My
sister and my friend, Eric, are saying that they're in love. This
normally wouldn't be a bad thing, but Eric's black...
Don't get me
wrong, I have no problem with them dating, but they're going to have to
tell our family sooner or later and the crapstorm that's going to erupt
from that isn't going to be pretty.
Another problem is that they don't seem to comprehend the fact that everyone's not as open minded as they would like.
In
times before, just when Mom was only talking to me before and dating
would come up, one of the main points she would always drive home is
the fact that if I ever brought home a black girl then to say that it
wouldn't be pleasant would be a gross understatement. Shelley keeps
having hopes that Mom will understand but, given my past experiences, I
can only see this ending in disaster.
That's not even taking into
the account that our dad will probably give her an even worse time than
Mom would, and then there's the rest of our family (on both sides) who
are all either very religious, very redneck, or a combination of both.
Yes...This isn't going to be good.
And that's not even taking into
account our stepdad, Danny, and his family. Danny isn't always as
understanding as Mom anyway, along with the occasional racist remarks
he casually drops on a daily basis. His family, like Mom and Dad's, is
the usual redneck-Christian combination you come to expect from a small
town in the south.

Dammit...I want to be able to support them in
this. But the only thing I've been able to do so far is warn them about
what's going to happen if they actually go through with it and tell
them why it would be a horrible idea for them to be together.

They've
asked me to just mention the idea to Mom sometime this week when I'm
talking to her, but I already know what's going to happen without even
having to say a word. I'll say it. Mom will start acting weird and
nervous. She'll ask me why I mentioned it. I'll get nervous and have to
try to come up with an excuse for why I mentioned my little sister
dating a black man. Mom will more than likely see through it and just
play dumb for a while. Days later, when Shelley comes home for the
weekend, the shit will hit the fan.

I don't want this to happen,
but at the same time, it's not my choice. It's Shelley's, Eric's, and
the rest of our families' choices to make.

Oh "deity-of-my-choice" why can't things just be calm for a change?

...There are simply no words to describe this...

deathpg1-2

 deathpg1-2
Originally uploaded by ashura001.
First two (of 12) pages of my Drawing II final are done! A few of the girls in my class are now demanding that I start selling "Happy Skull" shirts to the masses. You'll understand after I get the drawings scanned and online....If I can get my hands on a scanner that's big enough.

Aside from that, it looks like this is going to be a weekend of celebration. Tomorrow is the Anime Crew Halloween party. That should be entertaining. Saturday is Marion's birthday. I haven't even had the chance to get her a present as of this writing. Lack of money is killing me. Why do art supplies have to be so expensive? Furthermore, why is food so expensive? Anyway, we're having a party for her too...A costume party. I ended up being the one in charge of making the mix cd for the party, after they gave me a song list. It's mostly full of stuff that makes me cringe just at the thought of it, but it's for Marion, so I'll deal. On Sunday, the dorm is having a costume party in the lobby. I haven't made up my mind whether or not I want to go to that one or not. Either way, it looks like I'm going to be spending a lot of the weekend in my costume.

So what am I going as? I'm going as an Emo. Why? I don't really know. The idea amuses me (and a few other friends that I've told about it) though, and I can pull it off without breaking the bank, so why not? Expect pictures.

So what else have I been doing lately? Not much worth writing about, really. A lot of working on homework. That and I've found that I can waste ludicrous amounts of time just on MySpace and Facebook.

Poke wars make me smile, oh yes they do.

I really don't know why I've allowed those two sites to eat up so much of my precious free time, but oh well. At least I've got friends on there who do it too. Amusingly enough, one or two of them even go to the same school as me...and we've never met face to face. Amusingly enough, there's one in particular that, after one of my friends read her profile, they could only describe her as a female version of me. Whether that's true or not remains to be seen, as well as whether it's a good thing. But it just goes to show how the internet can bring people together that would otherwise never meet. Er...This would almost be a perfect time for me to start preaching about the wonders of Web 2.0, but I'll spare you for now.

Let's see...What else...? Don't you hate it when you know there was something else you wanted to say but you can't remember it for anything?

Long Overdue Update...

Well, I finally finished my Typography homework for tomorrow and, seeing as how it's past 4:00 in the morning, I don't see much point in going to sleep when I'll have to get up again in two hours. It'll just make me more exhausted.
No problem though. I've already got a pot of coffee brewing and I'll probably finish it off before I go to class.

So anyway, the lack of updates lately. No real reason. I've just been busy...real busy...and ever so frustrated.

Homework seems to have ramped itself up quite a bit, especially Typo. For the last two assignments, I couldn't begin to count how many comps I put out. Hundreds, for each one. I need to remember to convert the vectors to bitmaps and post them online eventually, so people can see what I'm doing. Drawing has just been sheer enjoyment lately. I'm really getting into the open-endedness of our assignments. Not being able to put my own spin on my work before is what always made me hate Drawing I. It's nice to be able to do what I want. I just finished a drawing that's due tomorrow earlier this evening. I love it. Did all of the color work in Sharpie highlighters. I have to say, it looks great under a black light. I might have to see if I can't get a picture of it online soon.

Aside from homework, I've also found myself being a lot more involved with stuff in the dorm...Yeah...Neil helping out with Homecoming? WTF?!? Believe me, I'm not sure how or why either, but here I am just the same. In the past few weeks, I've designed the banner for my dorm that's going to be displayed somewhere on campus during homecoming week (I think that's this week actually...oh crap...I hate homecoming events). That took longer than I meant for it to. But my part in it should be over and done anyway. Then, today, I found myself helping Cyn, Marion, Yetmon, and some others design a chapel out of cans...Yeah....You heard me....Cans...and Ramen...I honestly don't even know for what reason we were doing it, but I somehow ended up helping them before I knew what was going on. I really need to pay more attention, you know? Anyway, I know I'm supposed to be waking up early on Tuesday to help them get move the thing to the Union for display. That should be fun since all of the cans are still full of soup and stuff. So the thing's really freakin' heavy. I have no idea how we're supposed to get it there, so this should be fun.

Then there's the big problem that's been haunting me for two weeks now. My car is screwing up on me. You see, a couple of weeks ago, I was on the way home from Wal-Mart, and my car started overheating. Fun...Needless to say, I made it back to the dorm and didn't move it again until I could come out and look at it. Turns out that the radiator fan isn't working, so my cooling system is overheating because of it. At least that's what it looks like to me. For all I know my car could have just finally gone kabloowie and that's the end of it, which would suck. So I've been talking with Shanna's brother (a mechanic that knows my engine like the back of his hand, but lives an hour away), Danny, David (Danny's brother), and Dad to try and figure out how to fix it. I've poured at least $200 into the thing in the last week or two, and nothing I've tried has worked yet. I got it to idle without overheating though. I guess that counts for something. But I can't really go anywhere without the temperature spiking. I know Mom was thinking about just trying to trade it in for a new car, but Dad's pretty much putting a stop to that (he shares the car title with me). He wants me to fix it and keep driving...

[Rant]
Of course, he also started up on me about getting a job down here to try and earn money and help out with school a little bit. Believe me, Dad, I would gladly get a job if A) someone would hire me and B) I had the time for one. Homework pretty much steals any free time I would possibly have and, believe it or not, I do have to sleep and eat eventually. Yeah. I hate to break it to you, but if I were to get a job right now then my grades would drop and chances are I would have to drop out of college. I'm not going to do that and you can't make me. Not that I really care that much anyway. You don't even know what my major is, or what a Graphic Designer is for that matter. And don't start up about Shelley having a job and it only being her first year. One, it's not a job, it's a scholarship program. Two, I probably could have held a job during my first year too but try being a fourth year student that's got a ridiculous workload for the amount of hours I'm taking. I'd like to see you do what I do, without a job, and still hold your grades up. I don't think you could do it.

I rant about this because, well, what can I say? That just really ticked me off that he lectured me like that, after having almost noting to do with my education since I've been in college (I get auto repairs if I'm in town, if there's time, and he's offered to give me money twice, once last year and once at the beginning of last week, before the lecture). And he would choose the perfect timing of calling and lecturing me right in front of all of my friends. Thanks Dad. As if I didn't have enough to deal with, I also had to explain you acting like a jerk to all of my friends that overheard the conversation.
[/Rant]

Right...Back to the car. I actually was able to get it put in a shop to be worked on Friday, and they actually called me back later that night and told me that they had fixed it. I thought that was pretty cool but then, as I drove it home, I watched it overheat again on me in the middle of town. I'm probably lucky that I made it back to the dorm. I called the place back, but they were closed. I left a message and will probably be hearing from them again tomorrow. In the meantime, my car isn't moving from that parking space.

Then there was the fun moment last week that caused a bit of friction between friends. Cyn was having boy troubles and was a bit upset. So she was going back and forth and everything, like she usually does when this happens. Then she goes into he bedroom and everyone kind of follows her in there. First Marcus goes in, then Marion goes in. Then I start to go in and Marion closes the door in my face and tells me that it's a private thing between her, Marcus, and Cyn. So I get a kind of mad at her for saying that, especially since I just stood there and heard the whole story a few minutes ago. If that was the case, then wouldn't Cyn have asked me to leave or something? Besides, I've been there who knows how many times before and no one's ever complained. So, after she finally closes the door, I storm out and go for a walk for a bit. It was a nice night, and I wanted to clear my head a bit after that. So I wander the campus for a bit, stop by the library and screw around on the Macs a bit, run into a friend or two and have conversations. Then a friend from Typography calls me and we talk for a bit while I walk around. As soon as I hang up with her, Marion calls me, saying that she wants to apologize for earlier. Ok, I'm willing to accept her apology, but what I hear from her is that Cyn didn't want me to hear what she was going to say. What? Ok, why was Marion lying to me? And more so, why was she doing it so badly? I'd like to think I know Cyn better than to think she'd do that. Even then, she'd at least have the decency to tell me to my face. So yeah, it didn't take long for me to put the pieces together and figure out what was really going on. Marion was getting all paranoid because she thought I was trying to date her, or something to that effect. Either way, it was pretty clear to me that it wasn't Cyn that didn't want me there. It was Marion. I didn't say anything at the time though. It's fairly easy for me to tell when she's lying (she gets all tensed up and nervous sounding) but I was honestly a little more concerned about Cyn at the time. I still have no idea what was going on that night with Manuel, but she's my friend. I care about my friends and I like to be there for them when I can (that even goes for the ones that can't tell me the truth for whatever reason).

Oh yeah, and what's more...I can confirm that Marion was lying to me. I hope she didn't think I wasn't going to at least mention it to Cyn, after she used her as an excuse. Marion, if you read this, I think we need to have a talk. I've been trying to bring it up all week, but you always manage to change the subject just in time or launch into a rant that I wasn't about to interrupt.

I feel like tacos...

After Con Recovery

Well, AWA has come and gone yet again. I have to say that, looking back on the blur that was the weekend, it was a good one.

The group was smaller this year and much more manageable than the unholy crapstorm that was AWA 2004. Don't get me wrong. Last year was probably one of the best I've been to, but we were very disorganized. Everything kind of fell into place this year though.

There was no shortage of swag either. The dealer's room wasn't quite as good as it usually is, but I still made out fairly well in the end.
Those grab bags of stuff they had were actually pretty cool, once I opened it up.
I can now say that Kodoncha is probably going to be the best anime to be released here this year. It's just soooo funny!
I find it somewhat amusing that I managed to spend more on Marion and her sister than I did on myself. Import plushies are not cheap...
John is probably going to be an online celebrity, according to the reaction he got because of his "I <3 Boobs" shirt. I think he got stopped for more photo-ops than some of the cosplayers. :P
I tend to run across people that I know from online when I'm there, but only when we walk past each other and I have one of those "!" moments. Then I always turn around and they're gone.
Sausage Biscuts...Don't ask...
The AMV contest was actually good this time around.
Swords are cool.
We <3 Katemari is cooler.
Random moments with my more deranged friends and my sister are even more cool.
Dimes, Nickels, or Quarters...Again, don't ask...
Sobe is really, really, good. Especially the grape flavor.

Today has been kind of "bleah." Woke up. Went to drawing for my critique. Everyone thought I was a genious. Went back to my room. Went to sleep. Woke up much later and ate breakfast/lunch/a light dinner. Went to Arby's with Shanna and Marion.
Er...Yeah...That's about it really. Kind of dull, huh?

And now, because I'm just that bored, here's my horoscope for Tuesday:

Speak up if you've got a problem. It's important that you're able to accurately identify and voice areas in your life that aren't working. Go ahead and put your feelings on the line. Constructive change only happens when you're honest with yourself and others -- otherwise the universe might take matters into its own hands, and the results could be far more dramatic than if you take the initiative. The outcome will be far less frightening and more beneficial than you think.

"I can't wait to hear that song again!"

Heh...Well, here I am. 4:30 in the morning, I can't sleep, and it's time for some random ramblings...

Cyn apologized for last night. Yay! She didn't know that I was waiting for her to watch the movie. Funny, though. I could have sworn that I said I was. Oh well, it's over and done with now anyway. No point on dwelling on it past that.

Other than that, I went and spent more of the green stuff on art supplies. My poor checking account. Seems like I have to buy something new for my classes every other day. Oh wait! I am! At least I don't have to drop $200 for another piece of software...Yet... I also spent most of the day cleaning our room. It needed it...badly. So now it looks much better, except for Chris' side of the bedroom. I'm not going to touch his ever growing mountain of stuff. Might get swallowed up in it, or worse, it might get back on my side of the room again. :P Either way, the room looks a lot better.

I also took this as a chance to remind everyone why it is that I should never be left alone when bored. Foster, our other roommate, has pretty much made his new home on the couch since Marcus, our other other roommate, snores really loud. Because of this, we've started making all kinds of jokes about him being a refugee. One night of particular silliness led to us dubbing the living room it's own sovereign nation, Fostopia. Suffice to say, there's now a sign mounted over the couch, emblazoned with the name of Foster's great nation. Pray there isn't a flag tomorrow. I got Photoshop and lots of free time!
Chris and I made a Wal-Mart run (again) earlier this evening. I've come to the conclusion that I spend entirely too much time in that store. It seems to be the general solution for all types of boredom in the fair room of Sanford Hall 3005. "Hmm...I'm bored. Hey, Chris/Foster, wanna go to Wal-Mart?" "Sure..." I could go on a while longer, but it would be easier to just say that those lines are heard at least once a day.
Though I did see something in there today that both amused and saddened me. Goth costumes in the Halloween section. Yes...You heard me. Apparently, just buying them at a Hot Topic or something (buying them elsewhere, making them, whatever works...) isn't good enough. So Wal-Mart is actually selling a costume that is basically a ninja suit with a black wig and makeup and calling it a goth costume. WTF mate? I dunno...For some reason, something just seems wrong about seeing that hanging next to a Darth Vader costume.
I could go on and start ranting about how easy it is for corporations to package and sell a popular subculture to the masses but then you'd be reading this for a few hours.
Heh...Maybe I should write a book or something.

Yesterday, aside from the events that took place in my rant last night, I went to Hinesville with Marion and Shanna. Shanna had to pick up a prescription at the hospital on Ft. Stewart and it was a good excuse for Marion to drive a little more. So we get to the town and are about to go on post when I start looking for the registration for my car (The MPs always ask for it). Lo and behold, I didn't have or my insurance info. I told Mom about it and she found them at home. Why were they sitting in the dining room, instead of my car? We may never know the answer.

For tomorrow, homework and whatever else comes my way.

I kind of wish I could just skip Monday altogether. I know I'm screwing up my sleep schedule again, but I don't see the point of laying in bed and staring at the roof for six hours when I could be doing something else while I wait for my body to get tired.

Chris and I are hitting Atlanta on either Thursday night or Friday afternoon for AWA. We aren't sure which days yet since the schedule for the con hasn't been released yet.

*sighs*

You know...Sometimes things happen that just frustrate me to no end.

This evening has been a good example. You see, it's like this. I got Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy on Tuesday and tonight I finally got the chance to watch it. Granted, I've been really busy as of late, but I've still had plenty of chances where I could have sat down and watched the movie. I chose to hold off because some of my friends wanted to watch it with me. "Ok, that sounds great!"

Yeah...I like doing things with my friends. What can I say, they ARE my friends for a reason and since they are I'll do almost anything for them, including holding off on watching the new copy of one of my favorite movies so that they can watch it with me.

It finally looked like I was going to get the chance to watch it tonight, since I can't do any of my homework until I go get some Hot Press board from the University Store tomorrow, Chris finally finished his project, and Cyn kept telling me that I should bring it down for us to watch after we got back from the store. So we leave the store and suddenly the plan changes from watching Hitchhiker's to Cyn, Marion, and Yetimon watching craptastic chick flicks that they've already seen a thousand times before. I understand that Marion didn't want to see the movie anyway (though I think she would like it if she would give it a chance) but Cyn has been telling me that she wanted to see it since before I even got it.

So I was all excited that I was going to finally get to watch my movie with my friends.

Understand why I got a little ticked that, at the last minute, they decided to watch a friggin' Jennifer Lopez movie instead.

[Rant mode]

Maid In Manhattan!?! WTF, people?! I've seen parts of it! It doesn't speak to me, all it does is make me wonder how Jennifer Lopez keeps finding work!

Besides that, the movie gives me the impression that Hispanics are only good for serving others. Yes...I'm calling the movie racist.

Let's take a look at the plot for a second (Yes, I actually know what the movie is about. The ranting is not without reason.).

A Hispanic "Maid" falls in love with a Caucasian power broker, who lifts her up from the gutter. Am I nuts or is this the Cinderella equivalent of the McDonalds commercial that suggests that if African Americans work really, really, hard then one day, they too, can become fast food managers. Also of note, all of the maids in the hotel in the movie are either Hispanic, Black, or Asian (that I remember. Been a long time since I watched the movie). Only the high ranking hotel staffs are white. Behold the power of racial stereotypes.

Funny thing is that Jennifer Lopez's role almost when to Sandra Bullock instead. The only thing that Lopez had going for her (which unfortunately won her the role) was her "I'm from the Bronx" act. It definitely wasn't her acting that get her the role. For those who would beg to differ, I've got one word for you. Gili.

[/Rant Mode]

Heh...Sorry for the rant. Pent up frustration. It wasn't meant to target any of my friends, just to help them understand my opinion of Ms. Lopez and her movies. If her movies float your boat, then good for you. It mostly just irritates me that I've been waiting almost a whole week to watch a movie, only to be blown off for that.

That being said, Chris and I watched the movie a little while ago. It was just as great as it was in theaters and the bonus features were actually kind of amusing. You missed out.

Man...It seems like I haven't stopped since my last update. It's really been one thing after another with only a little breathing room here and there. I'll try to do a quick recap, I guess.

Let's see....

Typography has been hectic. Things are always due by the next class (20+ comps in two days while still finding the time to read 60+ pages for Lit and three separate reading's for Dr. Amy at the same time. Somebody shoot me...). Dr. Onyile never does actually tell us what it is that he wants from us on our work. He'll tell us what we're doing wrong and say to do it better and then go on to the next assignment. No telling us exactly HOW we're supposed to do it better when we don't know in the first place.
Then there's the joy that has been trying to find a place in town to actually print my homework. You see, Onyile doesn't just let us turn in an 8.5x11 sheet of paper with type on it. Nope. The assignment that's due on Monday is supposed to be a 14x14 print that's mounted on a 15x15 piece of hot press board with 1 inch margins. That might not sound so bad to some, but the real problem is that none of the print shops in town will print in those dimensions. I've been to three places so far. Eagle Prints sent me packing, saying that they can't print anything that big unless it's on newsprint. The graphic design store next to Domino's, which Onyile actually recommended to us, told me that the biggest print they could give me was 11x17 and that they can only read from cds, that they can't read my usb drive, and that they didn't have the software to read the file type I saved it in. I'm going to take this time right now to just call them stupid and lazy. First of all, I noticed that their computers had empty usb ports on the front of the case. Second, I pretty much made sure that they would be able to read my file, no matter what software they use. I saved it for three different versions of Freehand, as a PDF, a JPEG, a GIF, and a TIFF just for good measure. To tell me that they couldn't read my drive seems to me more like they were really saying that they didn't want to do it. Bone Art Graphics, which I've been told can do prints, has been closed every time I've tried to stop by.

After finally getting fed up with the print shops around town, I went and bought a roll of paper from the university store. If it comes down to it, I might have to do the final copy by hand. Office Max is the only place left that does prints, and I'm not sure if they're open on Sundays. I guess it's a good thing the font I chose for this one is kind of sketchy looking anyway. I've got room to screw up.

Aside from that, I've got to start studying for my Lit test on Tuesday. First test I've had all semester and I'm going to need two blue books for it, right off.

Then there's the stuff that isn't school related...

I went home last weekend. I had to make the drive alone though since Chris had to work. The ride was going fine until I got to Macon and my car started spewing oil and smoke. I pulled into a gas station to check it out. True to my amazing powers, my oil cap had a crack in it which only got bigger after I unscrewed it and then it fell on the ground and broke all the way into. So I had to put the oil I had in my engine and drive around until I found a parts store. I finally found one and got a new cap. Then I just had to deal with the smoke that kept pouring out as the oil on my engine burned itself off. Yeah...There's nothing quite like seeing the look on people's faces when you roll through town, looking like you're car's about to explode at the drop of a hat.
Thankfully, the rest of the weekend was much better.
Fun times, then back to school on Sunday so I could finish my Typography homework. I swear that class is eating my soul!

This week has been more of the same. Typography almost every night, reading, and just hanging out in general with friends. Oh, and don't forget the occasional fixing of computers, random food runs, grocery store runs, and whatever else comes along. And then AWA is looming over the horizon all the while.

This weekend has been a fun one so far. More of Marion driving. This time in my car. She's getting better though. Got to work on turning, braking, parking, and judging distances a little more though. But I've actually got enough confidence in her to let her drive my car and not worry about her hitting anything. So despite the list I just gave, she's at least doing that good. Friday, she drove us to Hinesville to get her allowance and pick up her little sister, Marilyn, for the weekend. That night was basically Marilyn and I watching anime. Then Marion played video games. Chris and I watched Invader Zim. Today Marion, Marcus, Marilyn, and I hit Savannah. Fun times. I bought a new t-shirt from Hot Topic. What can I say? I saw it and I knew I had to have it. It says "With a shirt like this, who needs pants?" Yes...I'm pleased with myself after that.

This evening has mostly been us watching anime again. Naruto started tonight. I'm actually kind of surprised that they allowed some of the violence on TV that they did. I guess a good example would be the guy in the first episode that gets stuck in the back with a HUGE ninja star. It actually shows it sticking out of his back with blood all around it and everything. I was also amused that they didn't change the names of Naruto's Sexy No Jutsu or Harem No Jutsu. Nothing big for me but still, this was Toonami, not Adult Swim. Speaking of which, AS showed the Escaflowne movie. If you didn't see it, shame on you. They need more good stuff like that. It certainly beats watching Squidbilly's. Now I'm just waiting for Evangelion to start in a few weeks and all will be good.

Tomorrow I get to finish up my homework and we're taking Marilyn home. Yup...Another busy day ahead, but that seems to be my life at the moment.

Slightly Off Target
*sighs*

As Jon would say, we can't have nice things...

This
day seems to have been a total misfire from the start. Woke up,
expecting Jen and Isaac to arrive at some point in the afternoon, since
I believe this is the weekend that Isaac said they would be here
(rummages through chat logs)...Yep...Isaac said they would be here
today, alright.
Well...That didn't happen. Don't know what happened either. We never heard anything from them. Haven't in a while.

Aside from that, there was a fun
moment this evening. You see, we were going to go to Waffle House
tonight. So I stop by Marion and Cyn's room to let them know that we
were heading out soon and Marion tells me that Cyn isn't feeling well
and doesn't want to go and that she didn't want to leave her here
alone. I ask what's wrong and Marion says that it's between her and
Cyn. Ok, good enough for me. I figured that maybe the guy Cyn's been
dating did something to upset her or something happened with one of her
friends and she didn't want to go and tell everyone something that, for
all I know, could be very personal and embarrassing. For all I know,
Cyn might have not even wanted Marion to know if not for the fact that
they live together. So I can understand her not wanting to just tell
everyone about it. I tell Marion to let me know if there's anything I
can do and I'm on my way.
I come back here and tell Chris and Shanna
that they aren't going (making sure that they know WHY they aren't
coming) and Shanna says that she's going to get her cell phone. A few
minutes later, she comes back and tells us that they're lying.

Why
would they want to lie their way out of going to a Waffle House? Seems
a little silly to me when a "no thanks" would work. In other words,
something doesn't add up here...Needless to say, I asked Shanna if she
was sure about that.

Anyway, back to the story at hand. A few
minutes after Shanna tells us that they were lying Cyn and Marion,
themselves, show up. They're upset with Shanna because she told Marion
that she wasn't buying their story. Shanna's upset with them because
she thinks that they lied. By this point I didn't know who was telling
the truth, so I just sat down on my couch with my head in my hands and
asked myself why this was happening. During this, Cyn finally came out
and said that something bad happened to one of her friends and she was
upset because of it so she wasn't exactly in the mood to go and eat. I
think that's understandable. There's more yelling between the three
girls as I sit there and put the puzzle together.

You see,
here's what I think happened. Shanna asked them and Marion told her
that Cyn wasn't feeling well. But maybe the tone in Marion's voice
didn't completely convince Shanna or maybe Shanna misunderstood them or
something. I don't know for sure since I wasn't there. Either way, I
believe that Shanna was out of line in the way she acted about it. So
what if they were lying. It doesn't change the fact that they weren't
coming. And if they were lying, then let them keep on until they lie
themselves into a corner. If you're going to confront them about it, at
least stay calm and try to hold back on the snide remarks. It's much
easier than a shouting match. At least I think so. Of course, in the
end neither Marion of Cyn was lying. Something that I'm glad for.

So
anyway, I follow Marion and Cyn out in the hall, give Cyn a hug, and
let her cry a bit (it was pretty easy to tell that she was trying her
best to hold it back while in my room). She's trembling. Then I walk
with them back down the hall, while listening to Marion rant about what
just happened. I think she entitled to rant after what just happened
and I'm glad I could be there for her to rant to if it helped her in
any way.

After they're back in their room, I head back to my own room.
I
walk in and don't say a word. Chris says it before I get the chance to
finish the thought in my mind. "Everything was going too well, wasn't
it? Guess it was time for something to screw up the peace."
He and I
have been in agreement over how much better this semester has been than
the last few. No fighting, relatively few misunderstandings (and the
ones that do pop up are quickly resolved), and everyone seemed to just
be more happy than before. Needless to say, we're all about keeping the
peace and avoiding any fights that don't have to happen.
Looks like
Chris spoke with Shanna and, though he couldn't convince her that the
way she acted was wrong, he did get her to understand that maybe this
was all a big misunderstanding. I add to it, telling her that she needs
to go down there and talk to them and try to work this out, but not
right now. Just as Cyn and Marion are my friends and I care about them,
so is Shanna. Sending her down there right now wouldn't get anything
accomplished. Not while emotions are running high in everyone. Let them
calm down first.

The three of us go on to the Waffle House. We
eat. We make a Wal-Mart run to drop off and undeveloped camera that I
found a while back.

We come back here and settle in for the
night. Chris walks Shanna back down to her room for the night and to
check in on the others. His opinion of it all is the same as mine, with
an added layer of complexity since Shanna's his girlfriend. After he
gets back, he tells me that there's tension in the air in there, but it
seems like everyone is calming down. That's good.

I talk to Jon and Gary on AIM and Google Talk while watching Adult Swim.
Take a shower for tomorrow.
Sit down and write the story of this day that missed the bullseye.
Hope that tomorrow is a better day.

Mmm...Waffle chips...

It's been a nice week. Classes are going very well so far. I've got all of my text books (finally). My Typography book came in the mail today. Now I'm just waiting for my copy of Six String Samurai to get here and life will be complete. :P

Tossed a new drawing up on my DA account a few days ago. Probably the first thing I've drawn for myself since I've been here, and it was still really more of a favor for someone else.

Google is slowly taking over my computer, and I like it.

I now have Google Desktop 2 running as a nifty little sidebar and I'm one of the early adopters of Google Talk, the new IM client. I have to say, it's nice, see?

I went to the Anime Crew meeting on Wednesday. It was actually pretty fun. I think I might go more often. Might even pay to join again this year. Carl is the president and Justin is the vice president, so things seem to finally be getting back on track with the club. I still hope we can pull off the "master plan" for the year of getting Advent Children to show at the Union Theater on campus. That would rock.

Today I took it easy...Really easy...In fact, I had no classes or anything, so I didn't do anything until around 5:30ish. That's when I headed over to Justin's for DDR. I haven't played Dance Dance Revolution in a long time, so it took me a few false starts to get back in the swing of it. I think I'm going to try to make this a weekly thing. Besides, it's nice to get out of the dorm once and a while for something that isn't class.

I left from there after 9:00 tonight and hung out in Marion's room until the early hours of the morning, just talking and having fun. Then I watched Marion play video games and fell asleep on her floor until she woke me up a little while ago since she was going to bed and I had to leave.

Life is good.

Google talk has been released!

talk.google.com is up and working! Sweet!
--------------------------------------------------

Yeah...For those who don't know already. Google released it's new IM client a few hours ago and I have to say, it's nice. The interface is really stripped down when compared to say, AIM, and it dosn't have much in the way of features like, like video chat and file transfers, but it is a really small download (less than 1MB) and it is still just a beta. I would imagine that many sought after features (video, file transfers, etc.) will be added in the hear future.

Actually, I wouldn't be too terribly suprised if a slew of add-ons didn't show up soon, user created or not.

read more | digg story

This is why Josh is a genius...

Seriously, I couldn't think of this stuff if I had to...
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Time to make Chris’ girlfriend very angry

Step 1: Visit this site
Killer Caffeine

Step 2: Contemplate the uses of this site as an irritant toward the cat loving community

So the average weigh of a healthy cat is between 7 to 12 pounds. According to this oh-so-helpful website I noted that I would take somewhere between 4.15 and 7.12 cups of instant coffee to end the purring of an average cat.

As a side note it would take 11.87 cups to kill a 20+ pound walking-heart-attack-covered-in-fur.

Step 3: Froogle, math, and your deceased cat

Using Froogle I located Nescafe Taster's Choice Instant Coffee 7oz for only $7.99. This can claims that it can produce up to 105 cups of instant coffee.

Doing the math with cup and weight values above it is found that 14.74 to 25.30 could be dispatched with just this one mighty can justice. The would-die-on-its-own-overweight-cats would only die 8.84 times (If cats really do have 9 lives then this cat is going to be uber hyper for .16 lives).

What can we draw from this? Well for under $8.00 you can off a substantial number of cats. This is substantially more bang for your buck that euthanasia... (and much more fun to watch I imagine)

Step 4: Applications... or “CAT’S GOT YOUR COFFEE”

Normally cat will not ingest coffee on this own. So this process must be aided by man (and since cats are not man’s best friend we are quite willing to aid in the process). 3 distinct solutions are presented below.

1) funnel… (or a beer bond if your cat likes to party)
2) turkey baster (my personal favorite… so many wonderful images)
3) Hydroulic-coffee-injecting-cat-killing-machine-mach-5.2

Disclaimer:

We all had a lot of fun here today… but in all actuality having a cat actually die from caffeine overdoes is an unlikely event. Most likely you cat will get spastic after a few cups and go hurdling out of control into the nearest window or transparent object. Upon colliding with said surface there will most likely be a meaty thumping sound followed by a sickening cracking sound (the cracking sound being produce by a snapping feline spine). Another much fainter thud will be heard after the cats “rag-doll” collapses and hit the ground (this sound will be much louder is the cat tried to jump through a closed window… extra height and all). A final nearly inaudible additional thump may be produced if the cat bounces after impact. Also a disturbing squishing sound will be produced with you accidentally step on the cat. This sound is followed by one of two other differing sounds which will be covered below.
1) The opening of a plastic bag as you prepare to throw away the spent kitty
2) The hum of an electric saw and ripping of flesh as you cut the cat into flushable chunks
Alternately if you do not want to dispose of your pretty kitty you can preserve it in wax… make sure you don’t move the body out of its crash position when waxing.

Oh…. You could probably rig a leaf blower to blow coffee…. Just a thought

Ah...Been a little while since I updates, so now seems like a good time.

I'm enjoying my classes so far. I have my teacher from Drawing I teaching my Drawing II class, instead of Bruce, but it's pretty much a given that I'm going to pass with an A now.
My Typography class is probably the hardest class so far this semester, but I think I'll be alright. I just have to stay on top of things in there.
World Lit. II is going to be interesting. My teacher looks like a mad scientist and the University Store keeps selling out of the textbook before I can buy a copy. Lovely.
Dr. Amy's class is freakin' awesome. I forgot how much fun her classes can be. It doesn't hurt that I've actually got a friend in there this time too (Marion). Even better that I might be getting a job out of the class. You see, Dr. Amy's a part of nearly every committee and organization on campus and they need a graphic designer...Can you see where this is going? She's got to talk to her groups and to the Art Department, but I might be getting paid as much as $25/hr for my services. SW33T!

It's been nice getting to see all of my friends again too. I never realized just how much I missed everyone until I was back here. Funny how that works sometimes, no? Everything has been going smoothly as well, with only one or two hiccups along the way. Like the comedy show that Cyn invited me to the other day. Turns out Marion was invited too and we got to talking about it in class the other day. I mentioned that, depending on homework, I might not go but Cyn was going to call me when they were leaving for it and I'd come along if I wasn't too busy. Sounds simple enough, but I never got a call or anything that night and before I knew it everyone was back from the show and I didn't even know if they had gone in the first place. I didn't get things straightened out until the next day when I saw Cyn and mentioned it. She said that Marion told her I said I wasn't going. When did I say that? I'm not going to jump to conclusions other than to say that either she misunderstood me in class or she didn't want me there for some reason and saw it fit to lie to Cyn about it. Either way, it's over now and I believe things have been resolved. If not they haven't then my part in it is over, regardless, as Cyn told me that she would make sure to call me herself to make sure about these things instead of just taking someone's word for it. It's nice to have good friends.

Speaking of friends, looks like we're going to be teaching Marion how to drive soon. We're using Cyn's car, since Marion will be inheriting an SUV, and I'm coming along as the "responsible adult." So to my friends:

In the event that there is an incident and I am not fortunate enough to survive, your instructions are to gather in an open field somewhere and fight to the death in an all out battle royale. The remaining friend inherits all of my stuff.

Yeah...I love it here.

I moved back to my campus yesterday...yup...

It's been fun. It's been great, getting to hang out with Shanna and Marion again. And it was good getting to see Cyn and Marcus again, once they got here too.
Yeah...Life is good...and strangely peaceful. It's...nice.

Finally got to meet one of my new roommates, Foster. He's a freshman, pretty cool though. He's nearly as big of a geek as Chris and I are. Our other roommate hasn't showed up yet through.

Chris, Shanna, Marion, and I hit Savannah today. I didn't realize just how much I missed that place until we got there. It was wonderful. We ate at Tubby's on River Street, stopped off at the malls, went to The World Market, the comic shop, and the Korean store. I got a copy of Wonderful Days, but I haven't watched it yet. Been too busy.

Chris and I have been trying to get a trashcan and shower curtain, but to no avail. I don't think I've ever seen Wal-Mart that crowded at 1:00 in the morning before...And the place was picked clean too. It was crazy.

I also have yet another thing to add to my list of "annoying things my school does." This time it's the new internet connection setup system they have going. Basically, they're forcing everyone to install Microsoft's Anti-Spyware software on their computers even through it's still in beta right now. They're making everyone install Service Pack 2 on their computers, despite the fact that I've seen it do some nasty things to computers in the past (like Marion's computer last year). Mine works fine though. And they've got this piece of software, made by Cisco, that you have to log in with. Yep...Another app to take up space in my taskbar and eat my resources...
So setting up the internet has been fun. I had no problem getting it up and running on my laptop (took about 10 minutes) and Foster's laptop. But Chris' computer keeps freaking out and forgetting settings and such, forcing him to have to re-download stuff a lot. Cyn's computer was relatively painless. I had to uninstall Norton because you have to have updated virus definitions and her free subscription ran out. I put AVG on her computer and now it's all good.

Marion's laptop was rant worthy though. First, her Norton subscription had run out. So I was going to uninstall it and put AVG on there. It wouldn't let me do it. Said I had to log out of Marion's profile in the software and log in as an admin. The problem was, you had to be subscribed to be able to log in or out. So she was stuck like that. I decided to do things the hard way and manually remove everything from the registry myself and delete all of the files myself. Didn't work. I deleted everything and left no traces of Norton and the Cisco login started throwing a hissy fit over it. So I did was I always do to her computer when it won't behave. I reformatted it and put on a fresh install of Windows for her, after she backed up her important stuff. I had forgotten about her computer not just resetting itself back to factory settings like most computers though. Instead I had to reinstall EVERY FREAKIN' DRIVER ON HER LAPTOP MYSELF! I hate MicroTel...So after hours upon hours of installing and configuring drivers and such, I try to connect to the school's network to download the updates and get her connected. Amazingly enough, the laptop didn't have an IP address. This still baffles me. At that point I decided to call it a night and work on it the next day. So we spend a day in Savannah and come back. I eventually make it back to her room to work on it (I'm the master of getting sidetracked) and, during the course of the day while the system was off, it magically got itself an IP address. Not asking how that happened, but I'm not going to complain either. So I finally get her set up after a few hours of downloading updates, while working on Chris' computer and juggling other things that came and went along the way.

So yay...I think my tech support work is over for now. Heh...Yeah right. I wonder who's gonna call me tomorrow?

Tomorrow's my last day before I go back to Statesboro! W00T!

Man...I'm glad this summer's over. No job and just a seemingly constant crapstorm of stuff tends to make me want it to end.
That
way I can go back to my dorm, where I'll have to look for a job, go to
class, and deal with a seemingly constant crapstorm of stuff. :P

Heh...I
guess I'm making it sound worse than it is. On the plus side, since I
didn't have a job, when bad things weren't happening to my friends and
family and I wasn't being volunteered to do things, I was able to kick
back and relax for a bit. Though it did seem like it was never going to
let up for a while there.

I've spent a good chunk of the day
packing stuff, and tomorrow's shaping up to be more of the same. I also
get the added bonus of getting to fix the air conditioner in my car...I
hope.
It's been out of freeon all summer.

I actually went to
dinner with my Dad, Debbie (Stepmom), and Trisha (Stepsister), along
with the constantly growing number of grandchildren that Trisha and
Timmy (Stepbrother) keep "blessing" Dad and Debbie with. One
word...Chaotic.
It was like one baby would start crying, then Kayla
(Timmy's daughter) would throw a tantrum, rinse and repeat. I have to
say, Dad and Debbie have more patience than I could ever have for them.
I think if I had to look after those kids all day, I'd start punting
them within a few hours.

Dad was also going to recharge the
freeon in mine and Shelley's cars before we go off to our colleges.
Shelley got hers, but I wasn't quite as lucky. After going through
three cans of the stuff, my car finally got cold. Then the engine
started making this weird sound every time I turned the air on. Turns
out that I've got a leak somewhere in my air conditioner and that's why
I was out of freeon in the first place. Lucky me. So anyway, Dad let me
borrow his air conditioner hose and I'm going to try and get some
sealant to put in my system tomorrow. If that doesn't stop the leak,
then I'll have to put my car in the shop the next time I get to come
home.

Aren't cars fun?

Anyway, I'm ready to get back to
school...Granted, this semester has the potential to turn into an all
out war, but I've gotten to where I really don't care anymore. Let them
fight try to fight with me if they want. They'll find that they're the
only ones who are fighting anything. The ones who know the truth aren't
fighting because there's nothing to fight about. I'm not fighting
because I've moved past it and their little accusations can't bother me
anymore.

Play time is over, kids.

character-design-4

 character-design-4
Originally uploaded by ashura001.
Well...Here it is, the last of Raquel's character designs. If you're wondering why it looks so much like the second design I did, it's because they're the same character. Raquel wanted me to do an evil version too. Can't say
that I'm not looking forward to it either. It was nice, not having any
classes or anything, but I'm ready to be back in a dorm.
Funny thing is, the closer I get to it, the slower time seems to go.

Anyway,
I finally got to hang out with friends again, for the first time in
weeks. We went over to Brandon's for Halo 2 on X-Box live.
I have to
say, Brandon's got a NICE house too. Love the plasma screen. Kind of
wondering how he manages to afford all of that cool stuff though.
All in all, a good time was had.

Chris called me again earlier this afternoon and asked if I wanted to go again today.
I was going to go with them, but I started working on Raquel's 4th character design this afternoon and forgot all about it.
Whoops.

Oh yeah, something weird happened while Shelley and I were eating dinner a couple of days ago too.
We
were sitting at the table and suddenly the trashcan lid just popped off
the can and flew halfway across the kitchen. Weird, huh?
I swear this house is haunted.

Oh yeah, and it looks like my part in the mural is finally over.
The artist that started it and his family finally got back from their cruise and were back in action with us on Sunday night.
It
probably would have been good and all, but their daughter kept
complaining because there wasn't anything else to paint on the sections
that were on the wall.
Wanting to have something to do is one thing, but don't act resentful to people who volunteered to help you without pay.
Ah
well...For what it's worth, I'm sorry we finished up everything that
could be done while you were out enjoying yourself for a full week on a
cruise.
So yeah, looks like were not working on it anymore.
Probably just as well since there's plenty of other stuff for us to be doing, such as packing for college and things like that.

Also
a special note to Burger King. Chicken Fries would be a great idea if
you didn't already serve something just like it that comes in a 5 piece
and an 8 piece. It helps if you try to make them taste a little
different too.

An online collectible card game

CardMaster conflics is an online CCG, similar to Magic: The Gathering, that is played through javascript. It really put a strain on my system when it was open.

In all, I think the coloring on the character could be a little better, but I really like the way the sky and the buildings in the background turned out.

Yay...Danny finally finished working on my car. He actually started giving it a tuneup yesterday, but lo and behold, he managed to break one of the screws off inside one of the parts, so he couldn't do anything else until we got that out. This involved us having to nearly rip my engine into pieces earlier today and me eventually taking a power drill to the finger when he was trying to force the broken screw out and I had to hold the part. The bit broke and the drill jumped straight to my right pinky, the broken bit ripping a nice sized chink out of the side of it. Man, that was a lot of blood. I guess it's a good thing that I've got a relatively high threshold for pain. I went inside and washed it off, put on some liquid bandaid (which burns like nothing I've ever felt, by the way), and I was back out there again.

I had to leave to go work on the mural before he finished working on my car though, so he had to finish up the rest of it on his own. I hear it's running very smoothly now, aside from the constant bumping caused by my screwed up back tire and the wheels being horribly out of line (curse you River Street!).

Anyway, the graphic designer that I've been helping with the mural is going on a vacation with his family, starting tomorrow. So now it seems that I've been put in charge of things while he's gone. Didn't see that one coming, but alright. I'm up to it. I might try to get some friends out there tomorrow afternoon to help out with it again. Right now our crew is just me, Shelley, and our mom. Nice and all, but this is a really big mural so help is always appreciated.

Aside from all of that, it finally hit me the other day that I've only got about a week and a half before I have to go back to the 'Boro. Sometime during all of the crazyness, I need to start packing and figure out what all is coming with me to the dorm. I know one thing is for sure, I'm NEVER taking my entire anime and manga collection with me again. 20+ DVDs, 60+ tapes, and around 50 graphic novels need not make the trip again. Besides, I didn't even watch or read half of it all.
Methinks I'll just be bringing along stuff that I'm currently watching/reading this time.

I'm going to have to figure out some way to still get all of my G4 shows down there too, since we don't get it on our cable in the dorm. If I remember right, there's a way to set up Azureus with RSS feeds that watch various bittorrent sites for new episodes and there's supposed to be a way to make it autodownload specific ones as soon as they're online. Not sure how it all works right now, but I could probably look it up again. Seems like I saw it on Kevin Rose's blog or on Plastic Bugs. Ah well, I'll figure it out. At least I've got routing the video and sound from my laptop to a TV nailed now. I just have to pick up a converter from WalMart and I'll be set, as if I won't be spending a lot of time in there anyway while I'm trying to get things situated in there. Yeah...I think I'm going to be doing my shopping after midnight though. I've noticed that the crowds in that store during the day tend to put me on edge (I always managed to get stuck in a sea of stupid people when I'm in there), and I don't even want to think about what it's going to be like during move-in. I might go pick up some necessities during the day (trash can, shower curtain, etc.) but most of my shopping will be done at night, lest I snap and kill someone.

Headline:
"Girl brutally beaten with a rotisserie chicken in a local WalMart. 'If she didn't know how to use the self checkout, then she shouldn't have tried to use it! And she mentioned something about her not spending a year at college if it weren't for her horse! It was a mercy killing!' Said her assailant. Listed among the other weapons used during the attack were a 30 gallon trashcan, several spiral notebooks, a box of Nutty Bars, a case of Dr. Thunder, and a pack of bacon."

So anyway, it's late and I'm sleepy. Good night everybody.

An Introduction...

Uh, hello everyone. I'm Neil and this, if you haven't realized it yet, is my blog. I mostly made this account to act as sort of a hub for the various other sites I'm a member of (links in the sidebar), but I'm probably going to make this my main blog as well.

The design on this site isn't final. I'm just using one of Bloggar's stock templates until I can make my own.

Anyway, I guess I should tell a little about myself. I'm a graphic design student at Georgia Southern University. I love all kinds of cartoons and comics, anime and manga especially, and I love computers and tech. One of my favorite things to do with my time is draw comics and cartoons.

I haven't quite made up my mind as to what kind of blog this is going to be, but at the same time, I don't really care either. I'm probably going to be posting whatever I want in here in the long run. Tech, art, anime, gaming, tidbits from my life, pictures, interesting articles, articles that I write about things, etc. What kind of genre would that put me in? Heh...I guess you could call this a Chaothis Blog. I'm not always going to have long posts, they're not always going to be relevent to you, me, or the person next to you, but they're going to be here just the same. :)

Anyway, I'm going to get back to setting the rest of the blog up (figureing out what all I can do to customize this thing further). If anyone has any tips on prettying this thing up feel free to share.

Flickr

This is a test post from , a fancy photo sharing thing.

Haloscan commenting and trackback have been added to this blog.
